The Propeller Club in Geneva

The Propeller Club, Port of Geneva distinguishes itself from most Propeller Clubs as it does not dispose of a sea port. Still, it has other assets that make it one of the major Port Clubs in Europe: the presence of most International Organisations, of which UNCTAD, a concentration of international Trading and Shipping companies, the presence of specialised banks in structured Trade Finance. As recognized centre for International Trading, Shipping and related Finance, Geneva therefore positions itself in direct competition with major places like London.
Today our Club counts over 100 members, all executives in Shipping, Trading and related activities.
Every month, the members of the Propeller Club, Port of Geneva are invited at a lunch or dinner, at the occasion of which they invite a speaker to present a subject of interest to the members. As a matter of example, the following subjects have been handled recently: arbitration clauses: impact, risks; transfer of property: rules under different legislation. Every year, the Club also organises at least one more extensive conference on a special subject. At such occasions, we generally have a panel of specialists coming from different companies in Europe. Subjects handled during the last few years have been: Hamburg Rules in Shipping, Letters of Indemnity (LOI) in trading and in shipping, general average, arrest of ships, seizure of accounts under different legislation etc., many other subjects to come. In average, such conferences were attended by over 100 executives active in the local trading and shipping community.

Our monthly lunch and dinner conferences are generally attended by 35 to 50 people according to the subject
